How can I highlight a thread posted by a certain usergroup in a specific set of forums, just like a sticky?

How can I set up my site so that threads posted by a certain usergroup in a specific set of forums are highlighted, just like stickies, with a different color background?

I found a vb.org mod and a template change on this forum that will allow me to change some of the background color of a thread, but it doesn't seem to extend that color all the way across like a sticky. Because vB is a table based system and I am not an uber coder, I was hoping to get some help from anybody with any experience in this area.

you will need to make a plugin that alters all the td class name from alt1/alt2 to a new class, althighlight (??) and then set your style in the main css.
