Lets hope they haven't booked Monday for counting the earnings from the 3.8 release.

At this rate they might be able to afford the Valium for the headache they are returning to

I get the feeling, this has lost them a few customers going by the unanswered questions.

Its a pity you guys here at vbseo have not gone onto other forum software as well as vb. At least we would of had a viable alternative to use if you had.

which is what should have been added from DAY 1 by the vB staff, not a forum member.

    THATS the issue here.

I could care less if they want to make some referaal/teir money of those willing to do so.

But to do it blindly and not informing those who don't know better of what's really happening is the problem.

    They duped their customer base.

To the other members post, I lost faith the day IB bought vb. i KNEW this crap was going to happen... and it's also why i stopped upgrading and renewing my licenses over a year ago.

From a purely personal perspective, doing this without full disclosure is akin to inserting one's google adsense code into free templates that are released on .org, or cookie stuffing when posting on someone else's site.

Not suprised about IB. I have experienced this sort of behavior with my current employer. Many years ago the company I work for was owned by a family. They retired and sold it to a company that was borg-like in its mentality..that is, install a new command structure and get rid of the veterans that built the business. It's their way or the highway. Their attitude was to descend on anything that interested them like a swarm of locusts. They bulldozed their way in, firing older employees and changing the time tested methods which made them a success..all the while having a new manager do nothing but spout pro-corporate babblespeak.

My point, get used to this sort of shabby treatment of the people that built VBulletin. If this adsense thing gets changed so we feel all warm and huggy again, look for these snakes to raise fees again or try something else to "enable" us to generate money for them some other way.

vbSEO should compete directly with VBulletin and create a new choice for us in the form of vbSEO forum software. That way we can be happy....... until IB buys vbSEO

Customer service seems good with their lack of reply to the questions that have been asked and not answered so far.

If Mert was right with his time calculations, they would have had plenty of time to knock up a reply answering whats being repeatedly asked.

    Hello all,

James is with me here in Los Angeles this week, and together we've read through the latest rounds of comments regarding our AdSense integration. The answers below are from both of us.

What was the motive behind adding Adsense to vBulletin?

    As stated above,

    Quote:
... the AdSense implementation in 3.8 is there as a convenience feature primarily for those not already running AdSense on their forums.
Adding the option to deploy AdSense automatically from vBulletin was a response to requests we received from several dozen customers, who asked for an easy, straightforward way to add advertising to their sites. Our motive was to add value to vBulletin and make it a more compelling product. What we've rolled out in 3.8 is not the end state; we are working on other full-featured ad-management functionality, which will appear in future releases.

Yes, Google has a referral program, which we belong to, but the referral revenue is relatively small and not the primary reason for adding the AdSense option.

What data can Jelsoft/Internet Brands see, and how are they used?

We understand the sensitivity around the privacy aspects. In this current AdSense/vBulletin 3.8 integration, Jelsoft/Internet Brands are interested in Google's reporting so that we can track the overall performance of the program. We will track aggregate information on page views and the overall number of sites that have achieved the revenue levels required to trigger Google bounty payments.

There is further clarification on this that we would like to share, including an official privacy statement. Please note that this requires further consultation with Google, including a legal review. This takes time, and we ask for your patience.

Is Jelsoft/Internet Brands sharing our ad revenue?

No. Although with the current implementation we have no plans to change this, if it were to change in the future, Google would require that (a) we give you 30 days notice, and (b) you agree to the change. Please refer to:

Flexible Revenue Sharing - AdSense API - Google Code

    Regards,

    Ray & James

I suggest you pull the Adsense integration until this is sorted out. Absolute pants response, if it wasn't for vBSEO I would ditch vBulletin now.

    unbelievable...

this has seriously shaken my trust in VBulletin software.
the adsense is a minor thing and can be worked around but it does leave SERIOUS doubts for the future..

i think the IB/VB team is betting on people being to involved with their current set ups /installations to make a stand or leave.

after all leaving would mean they have to swap forum software and all the problems possibly associated with that..

so they're thinking sure they'll moan and groan.. but they will still stay with us. they will still pay their license fees...
