What possible reason does vb have for making you enter it on vb.com instead of just a vboption in your ACP?

It's for them, not for you.

but how could they use the id for anything?

While they claim to take no earnings, and they very well might not be, who knows if they are effectively making a 'tier referral' of some sort. thus every dollar you earn earns them .10 cents.

Who knows.


Either way, it's got fishy written all over it, and i once again advise you all to NOT use this.

They also Inject their "google_ad_host" id in the code, unless they are getting something from it, I see no reason for them to do that.

This may be the last straw for me and vBulletin... Do you realize how many license holders are going to blindly turn over that information to IB now? They're definitely in it for the money. I have no doubt.

So by not renewing your vB licence and having their super clever AdSense integration system, you end up with more money in your pocket

Are there any good reasons to upgrade to 3.8 apart from loads of pointless add on´s and nightmare integration of skins.

I agree with Brian on this one. Do not utilize the new vBulletin adsense integration until such time as vBulletin explains how this will effect your privacy.

At the very least doing so will probably provide some sort of statical data to vBulletins parent company (Internet Brands) on your revenue earnings and / or traffic data about your website. In addition vBulletin probably earns a referral fee from Google based off referring new customers and improving revenue generated from sites. Internet Brands owns hundreds of mid-size and large communities generating millions of dollars a year in Adsense and related Internet advertising channels. This type of integration suggests that they'll have the ability to monitor what communities generate money and how much traffic their network is generating overall.

I own a dozen licenses and will not be upgrading any of my sites to 3.8 at this time. This quite frankly is a slap in the face and a very poor decision on vBulletins part by trying to sneak this feature in and not explaining who it will effect our privacy.

Brian, keep it up mate. Your arguments have been well thought out and you have made a point very prominent.

So lets gets this straight, they are encouraging people to join AdSense. They get a bung for how much each new person who registers earns over a 180 day period. Not just per new person they enlist.

So if someone like Brian was a new customer, 180 days earnings would be mega bucks, a cut from google for that for free would be a massive amount. Even if they are only low earning sites, that amount will soon add up.

Plus it could mean loads of extra new customers, now dropping our own earnings.

Adsense Options surely bring lots of questions to mind. I posted 2 important question and Ray Morgan responded them but i honestly donot think my questions was clearly replied. The only thing is i am sure is Jelsoft ( IB ) gets a affliate sale for each customer they send to adsense. This is acceptable for new adsense users but i fail to find a logic for existing adsense users which makes me worry.
