    vBulletin 3.8.0 Beta 2 Released

    vBulletin 3.8.0 Beta 2

We're pleased to announce the second public beta of vBulletin 3.8.0. Any customer with an active vBulletin license can download the beta.

There is an extensive blog post by Darren that showcases some of the new features and improvements that have been made to vBulletin 3.8.0.

    Significance of a Beta Release
This is beta software. If you are not fully at home with backing-up and restoring your forum, dealing with bugs and regular upgrades, do not install this beta version.

Customers should bear in mind that this is a public beta, not a certified 'stable' release so the following caveats apply:
    • Beta software is unsupported and you install beta versions at your own risk.
    • Some minor bugs remain unresolved at this time, so beta software should not be on production sites.
    • You should always back up your database fully before attempting to install beta software.
    • If you choose to install this version, you should be aware that we plan to release new beta versions in rapid succession as bugs are fixed and holes are plugged. Do not install this beta version if you are not willing or able to keep up-to-date with new releases.

Full instructions for upgrading vBulletin are available here.

You shouldn't upgrade to 3.8.0 Beta 2 on a production site. It's beta.

I'm done with using bet version's. If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

Just wait it out people. By the final release maybe some mods will be updated and some pre-made templates.

I'll just monitor the fix's in these beta version's to kill time.

I've using vbulletin for over 4 years now, In all those years they came up with 2-3 useful features and ton of blot.
VB developers doesn't seem to understand what forum admins and end users want.

Everyone is different tho, but overall I agree. I feel vBulletin has not been developing/communicating smartly. IPB has version 3 alpha done and it is looking impressive, has many of the essential things that you really need which VB is still lacking. I know I would never change over to IPB on my main site, but if I was to start new sites I would now re consider my loyalty to VB.

Can you elaborate on what IPB has that vb does not?

I will link you to their blog: Invision Power Services -> Community Blog List

There site is not running the latest version, nor is the latest version out, it is in alpha but it is tons better IMO then vbulletin 3.x series. Just take a look at all the new features and code structure.

fair enough however when looking at getting the best software one does not rate how good their servers are and secondly the new software is not being run on that site just yet as it is still in alpha.
