I think one obvious solution is simply include a set of multiple optional, high quality styles, for users to choose from. For more technically challenged users, they can then have a more professional style without having to do much customization.

The current vBulletin style is very outdated in design. While it is functional and usable, it is far from aesthetically pleasing by today's standards. That leads to most users customizing it. And that means users with custom styles end up having concerns when stuff gets changed, and they need to do work to establish compatibility.

Yeah, the style is about three years old LOL.

They are updating it in 4.0... I just can't wait to see what that will be like hehe.

Well, if you customize your forums, then it is your responsibility. If you went messing in your registry on your computer and something stops workin', Microsoft won't take the responsibility. It's the way it goes; software developers cannot support everyone.

The REAL solution is to make a template system that includes hooks, just like the codebase.

They are trying to move to that it looks like, but half the time its an edit to simply add the hook in the first place for another piece of code.

In layman's terms, are the upgrades heading to the stage where there will be no backward compatibility for the older hacks a lot of us still use.

There will be zero point in doing any skin changes other than a fancy new logo on the bog standard skin.

And are there any important changes in the latest release of vb that will affect its performance and security

Will this release push back the new vbseo release?
It may be best to not listen to anything I say for advice. :spin:

    As a newbie to Vbulletin
and not so good yet in HTML and codes and all that...
I have to say that I went already through nightmares
with their upgrades withing last few weeks.

I did run a simple free board before
and wanted now to run a Vbulletin and willing to learn
but really, all these upgrades in that short time is omg
I need my time to finish my forum and to learn more HTML and all that stuff.

I also find the support from Vbulletin is not so very helpful at all
Til now I am not so a happy camper with them.
I dont do now any upgrades.

I am glad I have now all how it is and have VBSEO
and I seen also many Vbulletin forums with older versions doing well.

Just my 2 cents to that, lol

    Have all a nice weekend

    Marina
