    vBulletin 3.7.2 Released

    vBulletin 3.7.2

As promised last week, today sees the scheduled release of a maintenance version for vBulletin 3.7.x.

vBulletin 3.7.2 contains only bug fixes, details of which can be found in the bug tracker.

The security fixes included in vBulletin 3.7.1 PL1 and PL2 are also included in vBulletin 3.7.2.

    Upgrading from Previous Versions

3.7.2 is a maintenance release. We recommend that all customers running prior versions of vBulletin 3.7 upgrade to benefit from bug fixes and stability improvements.

Full instructions for upgrading vBulletin are available here.

    PHP and MySQL Requirements

Please note that vBulletin 3.7.x requires at least PHP 4.3.3 and MySQL 4.0.16 or later.

However, we recommend that vBulletin 3.7.x is run on PHP 5.2.6 with APC (or a similar opcode cache) and MySQL 5.0.51 for best performance and stability.

End of Life for PHP 4

The PHP group has announced the end of life for PHP 4. We strongly recommend that customers update their servers to PHP 5.2.6 if they are still running PHP 4. vBulletin 3.7.x supports PHP 5 without any problems, though you may need to disable strict mode for MySQL, see here on how to enable 'force_sql_mode'.

Note: We will continue to support PHP 4 in the vBulletin 3 series.

    Download vBulletin 3.7.2

As usual, vBulletin 3.7.2 is available for all customers with valid, active licenses to download from the vBulletin Members' Area.

Generally, the changes should be able to be applied to custom themes, especially the 'Mandatory' changes.

The 'non-mandatory' ones aren't required, so in this release, you don't need to do anything.

    right.

but the problem is if you don't do them, come 3.7.3, they might code something that uses one of those new hooks, but it won't be part of the 'mandatory' template changes list.
support will say 'blah blah blah, i won't help you until you un-install everything and revert to the standard skin' so, you might as well do them as they come out for your own security and future portability.

    thats what im thinking..

i mean if there non mandatory, why in hell do it? to make it look like there actually doing something?

its just nice to be up to date aswell.... >.< they should really release something as isnt it there job to give the customers with custom styles user options a choice whether they want it or not?

    No-one's forcing you to upgrade.

Anyway, it is just the same as Microsoft releasing security updates/patches ect.

It's really easy to upgrade. The templates don't revert until you do them....so what's the problem?

How many times have you had to edit your custom background, or folder view style, or start menu display, etc etc on windows after a security update? or howabout even going as far as a full service pak? never.

The problem is that it's a pain in the ass. lol And as stated, its not mandatory 'now', but something in the future might end up using a template hook (like the blogs do for the nav bar link). If you decided on 3.6.7->3.6.8 that you didn't want to edit the nav bar template, and then later bought the blog add on, you'd never get your nav bar item for the blogs because the template hook doesn't exist. And of course, in 3.6.8, there was no template edit to the nav bar at all. So, if you missed it the first time, things later on might not work.
And like I said, when you try to troubleshoot why it doesn't work, vb is going to tell you to buzz off, and revert to 100% stock... something few are willing to do.

because those with custom stlyes, cant really just revert... and they dont offer detailed guide on fixing these lil bugs or errors,

its just like microsoft telling you theres an issue that needs to be fixed, and not giving you a download for it.. but giving you the option to reinstall all of windows again, freshly to get this non-manadatory update.

Does the solution lie in some kind of automatic find/replace script?

Sounds like they need a new template system. If so, how should it work?

As I said, you do NOT have to upgrade. Their template system is great as it is... I can't seem them creating a template system that would automatically update everyone's styles...it would be impossible to do this for everyone.

And I modified 4 templates, pretty easy really.I just add an html comment for all modifications and write a few notes down in AdminCP.
