I don't know anything about Zoints SEO, but my personal feelings about Mr. Chapman and Zoints is that they have been misjudged by me. I believe David has a lot to offer the webmaster communities. Some of it will be with no strings attached, some with a profit motive. That is no different than any one of us.
This was actually a post I made at vB Hackers, but I thought it was relevant here because this is the thread I made my referenced comment.

I've requested this thread be closed or removed. I don't think it's right for a "competing" product to be discussed on this forum. Kudos to the vBSEO guys for leaving it as long as they did.

just as a side note after your post; on my dev site which has over 1000 listings on google i tried this out and google purged their index of me. So i thought ok now for the cool bit, BUT it started indexing the same old link again but it didn't seem to be doing it as fast as when vbseo wasn't installed. As far as I can see the hack doesn't actually seem to do anything for the search engines. I have soince uninstalled the hack and my listings are coming back up

I always thought a development site was s'posed to be a closed to the public (and search spiders) site according to the agreements with vBulletin. Unless it is a paid for installation of vB, of course, but then how can that be considered a dev site?

Sounds confusing to me. What also confuses me, and I am certainly no SEO expert, is how any conclusive test of any SEO method could be obtained in only a few short months. I would think it should take at least 9 months to a year or more. And the kicker, how some people are convinced that reports of a particularly attributed SEO success (at least those attributed to vBSEO) couldn't possibly be true, but the uninstallation of the script and any slight improvement of indexing afterward is because of that uninstallation. Baffles me what claims I have seen, pro and con, of any SEO routine.

I thought about this the other day also. From what I can gather, no test boards has ever been setup here. Were lets say, you have two identical forum boards setup on the exact same day with identical threads and posts on them. One with SEO installed and the other without it. To see what happens when comparing them both for ranking and threads indexed a few months down the line (to get a real comparison). I have to agree, I've seen no hard evidence to show what advantages SEO really offers over a board without it installed to warrant paying a large fee for it. And it just seem, because people buy and install SEO, they think it's all down to SEO why they get a certain PR ranking etc.

I agree with eJM above, it too soon to say that SEO does this and that better without some hard evidence to prove it from test boards like I mentioned above. From what I can gather, Google has changed the way it indexes certain files now like php extensions. And can now deal with them pretty much the same way htm or html extensions are dealt with. Meaning there is no real need anymore to create search engine friendly html pages etc.

As a team, we are very happy to see that forum admins are starting to realize the importance of having an SEO solution in place. The new offerings certainly help to spread the message.

Building a great SEO tool is no small task. After more than 1.5 years of fully active development, we definitely realize that. As with any software tool, it takes time to get from the launch to a state of stability that can only occur with active user testing.

While you can be confident in the knowledge that vBSEO is the definitive SEO solution for vBulletin, we are happy to have others actively seeking new and innovative ways to make our forums more search engine friendly. And, that's why we always welcome user suggestions on new feature development. Keep them coming all.
