Wordpress Homepage then Vbulletin stays in Root!?

Ok I am thinking of doing this, let me know if this would be best so I dont lose out on 3 years worth of SEO.....

    Using 4.1.9

My current homepage is a custom /index.php in root and I dont use the CMS anymore but the entire forum is in root. Everything links to the forum from the custom homepage but this is what I want to do:

Install wordpress to something like url.com/wordpress/ - make this my homepage for articles etc. but the entire forum still stays inside root, so all my articles etc will link out to the forum.

Would this mess up any of my SEO if I direct url.com to url.com/wordpress ??

    Is this even possible?

    Sorry for the newb question!

I'm fairly certain there is a way to use just the index.php file from WP in root while the installation is in a /folder/. This would be the ideal way.

    yup:
Giving WordPress Its Own Directory « WordPress Codex

Permalinks may be an issue though, as both wP and vbseo work on a catch-all, so they can not be split out in the htaccess file, unless you label all wp content with a prefix like wp that you can match against the uri with a condition.

The easiest way would be to NOT use permalinks and just run the ?p=123 style urls.

Brian 1st off I appreciate all your support on VBSEO.com, everytime I research threads you always have the best replies so thank you very much!

Yea I really dont care about articles being SEOed on Wordpress as all the action is inside the forum and the homepage is only going to be used for outbound links to articles, inbound forum posts & advertisements.

So by doing this, it wont mess up any SEO that I currently have for my forum correct?

Just want to double make sure...

ill leave permalinks off for wordpress..

Yeah, i'm pretty sure that so long as you leave permalinks off on WP, the above method will work without issue. You might want to test on a dev area first though.

    And you're welcome
