What happens if vbseo site goes offline.

    Something is bothering me.

vbseo obviously calls the vbseo site to check if you're licensed (hence the message if the site is not in the database) - so what happens to all our forums if vbseo goes offline and fails to respond to these callhomes - do we all go offline as well

It only "calls home" when the license key is not present. Once you save that to your config file, it doesn't check any longer.

Since you're using vBSEO 2.4.0, you may need to manually edit the config file and add your license key in. 3.0.0 has an updated way of handling that.

Some people see the presence of 2 letters (RC) or the absence of 4 (GOLD) as being a reason to not install software.

3.0 GOLD is pending. We are awaiting completion of translations of the control panel in multi-languages only.

Correct, things are called Beta or RC for a reason.

Not a problem at all, it's your server, your call.

There *are* however, many good reasons to upgrade to the latest version of vBSEO, even given that it has an RC tag - bug fixes and performance improvements being among them.

Having said that, vBSEO 3.0.0 GOLD is due very soon.

How soon might that be? Days, weeks? I just purchased and am wondering if it might not be simpler to just wait for the non-beta version to be released before installing. (sorry - didn't mean to hijack but y'all were already talking about this)

A new bug (discovered by one of my questions) was fixed a couple of days later.

I'm happy to wait another week or two - our site is the busiest it's ever been (due to current events in the UK cable TV/ISP market) and the server is still surviving.

    Good to hear Paul.

I'm fairly sure that everyone will receive notification when 3.0.0 is released.. most likely, it will make your server happier too, through the performance improvements etc.
