    Red face Versions?

I seem to be using version 3.0.0 RC8, is there a newer version than this? It says my license has expired, which is to bad as I've seen no search engine increase with this software for some reason, I'm even running the yahoo and Google site maps and everything is working correctly, and it's been up since November or so.

Does this mean I need to pay another $149 to update or switch the software to another site, if a newer version is available.

I just checked, my site isn't even in the google top 100, sigh.

    Thanks for the fast reply!

"Your current pagerank is 2." - Is that good or bad?

Is there a 3.0 gold release thread so I can see what changes were made?

Pagerank of 2 for your homepage is ok to get started. It will increase over time as you gain linkbacks to your site. Remember that every page on your site can get some pagerank helping to get it crawled, indexed, and to receive some traffic.

Thanks, I prob won't buy this software again, I'm sure it's great, I... I'm getting 10k something unique ip hits a month, not a ton, but a lot for my 25k member site, and my rank still sucks, I should note that the "competition" gets far less hits than I do.

/shrug... I don't have time to play the "search engine game", maybe I'll have to make time and fully read this site, sigh.

    Thanks for your quick responses.

Even if you do nothing but keep vBSEO installed, you will benefit from link consistency/consensus and many of our other SEO features.

A simple formula is: vBSEO + content + link building = successful forum

Content is a given. If you are building a forum, you will be building content, expecially user generated content as your forum grows.

Install vBSEO, set it and forget it to start reaping SEO benefits.

Link building on the other hand, is an essential component of success with search engines, and is something you should be doing to help generate click through traffic as well as search engine valuable linkbacks to your site.

What is link building? You mean having outside sites click on my url.com: Search with Many links?

I don't know why I would need vbseo to do this. I have 2 other sites I can buy this for, I just need a valid reason to use this and not the free mods on vb.org

    Anon,

The benefit of link building is this: If there are no links coming into your site for search engines to follow, they won't be able to reach it very easily. The more links you have coming into your site (and from authority sites), the more likely your site is to be deeply indexed.

One of the best ways to gain permanent inbound links is to write articles, preferably on your website's topic, and submit them to article publishing sites.

If you ensure you have a linkback (most sites encourage this) to your main site in the article, and it is good copy, you will have a link to your site on any site that publishes the article...and you may find the article listed on more sites than just the ones you submit to. I've had a few turn up all over the place, each with the linkback intact.

So post a link in the article to the thread? Thanks for helping me btw, I'm feeling better about this now, on another site someone claimed that I'd basically been ripped off, and I was feeling sorta helpless with this crap.

This site has been in exsistance for 4 years, as far as I can tell, is the best in it's field, offers the most content and what not and yet isn't even in the top 100 on google. (I think the top 100 under the keywords you want is a good place)

Should I be digging and what not my own articles? I wasn't sure if that was allowed. I don't want to "spam" up the net w/ my forums threads, heh.

When you write the article, put something at the bottom of it along the lines of "This article was written by Bob Smith of www.domain.com. For more articles on *subject*, visit www.domain.com."

I don't know whether digg frowns upon people using digg to drive traffic to their own sites by submitting their own articles.. I have heard of digg accounts being banned for spamming, and I have seen others posting 100% links to their own site, with no penalty.
