    VBSEO and Spam?

HI, I installed VBSEO about a month ago on my forum blaa.ie

And since the installation i have noticed an increase in spam posts from new members. I have capatcha and email verficiation enabled on my board.

The last 'user' i deleted was Abaslavan (or similar to that) who was promoting viagra alternatives. Just today i noticed a new user by the name of Fat Devil 1962
    Blaa.ie Forum - View Profile: Fat_Devil_1962

He was on one of my mates forums but i sent him a pm and he deleted his account

Here he is on another board
Talk vBulletin - Your vBulletin Webmaster Community - View Profile: Fat_Devil_1962

All of these boards run VBSEO.

They also run vBulletin. Poll webmasters that run vB forums without vBSEO and forums that are other than vB and you will find, I'm sure, that spamming message boards is neither new, nor relegated to vB forums running vBSEO. It is, in fact, on the rise everywhere -- more email spam and more message board spam. Why? Because it is profitable to the lazy asses who do it.

Can you suggest anything, short of an engraved invitation, that could be written into the code of any hack or script that could be considered a draw for spammers specifically. Maybe increased popularity or better positioning in search engines? Yeah, maybe that.

    R'gards,

    Jim

Not a vbseo thing. You can do a google search on this one, and others and find they make their way to other places as well. This one actually showed up on a wiki, and on a phpbb forum, I am sure he will show up on all of mine soon as well... they always find me, LOL

No hump, rollo, just my thoughts on the matter. My answer was as genuine as your question. I have no doubt a spammer would take every available opportunity for a quick buck. Anything that makes a potential mark more noticed by a spammer is susceptible. Good SEO and spam prevention are not inclusive of one another. Good SEO and visibility to spammers is.

    Spam is a good thing.

Why? it means that robots are finding you

just ban the IP range. Ususally its the same 3 or 4 ips that keep doing it.
