Just letting the vBSEO staff know about this issue. I was on a domain selling forum, and noticed someone was selling vbseo.net. Looks like someone bought it in the end.

Just thought I'd let the staff know, incase the .net name is used for a bad purpose.

Interesting post – as within the same forum thread there were also messages along the line of “vBSEO could sue you for the name” “The word "vbseo" is not a registered trademark” “patent pending...i`d watch out...”

As I own 2 vBSEO licences I would like to think I am part of the vBSEO family of users. My purchase of vBSEO.net was not to cause mischief but to create a forum directory join the affiliates program and support the product.

I was going to make a dir with vb-seo.com
but I got lazy and just sold it for 3 or 4 $ profit

Trademark and Patent is two different things.
Trademark is the registered under the keyword, design & brand name.
Where patent is more on the product, artifect or material. In this case over here, for patent pending. It's more of the the way the program is written and programming language or script used over here. The control panel or managing panel layout & functions.
However, one can write similar product but in his own programming style. Because, php is an open source. Anyone can use it for programming.
There's no way to patent (yes, you can) but can't stop anyone from coming out with similar products.
If can, example, Live Chat. Years ago big company that came out with phplivechat would had patent their products.
The problem is that it's php.. Unless you came out with your own programming language..
