    vbSEO = Greatly reduced speed?

    Hi,

Having just installed vbseo I noticed my forums are taking much longer to load.... even receiving complaints from members.

I disabled vbseo and the forums are back to normal?

Any help to resolve this would be appreciated.

Shared. Never had this problem prior install.

The second I disable, the speed is ok.

    Very strange issue.

Well if it is shared, have you tried to contact your hosting provider about same. cause vbseo has not yet caused a increase in server resources.

We host more then 4 vbseo installations.

Would you say that your server normally performs *very fast* or just average? You should ask your host how many other sites are hosted on the same box as your site.

    Who do you host with?

    Also, check out:

You should not be experiencing any dramatic slowdown unless your server is already at or near its capacity. How active is your forum?

As you have said, it must be the hosts fault. Currently looking for alternatives.

    Thanks for the help.

i think a forum of your size has outgrown shared hosting at this point.

Also, did you enter any value for Limit Url length?
I've found that setting to be buggy and add a huge load when anything but 0 is entered.

Yes - that is unacceptably slow. You should un-install and wait until you move to a new hosting provider before installing.

    What is your current host?

I hear generally positive feedback about pair.com and asmallorange.com.

    You think?

We receive 30,000ish unique hits a month (40GB bandwidth...)

Dont suppose you could recomend a good alternative?

With regards to limit url length, I havent made any changes to default settings. Will do so now.

I have disabled. Try now, much much quicker.

    I am lost.

Thanks for recommending, do you think a forum of my size is ok with shared hosting? (top end shared)

Faster now, but still some delay. Are you converting that traffic to a good revenue stream?

The reason I ask is that before recommending that you start thinking about a dedicated server, I would like to know that you are already able to cover the cost with forum earnings.

Once you move to a dedicated/fast server, you can expect your forum to improve. You should get greater stickiness, by not losing members who jump ship due to a bit slower response times.

I am as it happens, although I dont suspect google adsense would provide a great deal towards hosting costs.

With being a University student, I would only really like to spend roughly $20ish a month, not enough for a VPS/Dedicated server.

Who is your current host? Your site seems to be running ok for a shared account with a higher than average traffic level, but it is quite strange how it slows down with vBSEO.
