vB in root or /forums ?

I am about to install vB on a new site which I intend using vBSEO on as well, but I am unsure if there is any benefit to SEO to be gained by having the forum in the root directory vs. a /forums/ directory instead.

Any advice would be appreciated here.

    Regards,

    John

    Hello John ,

It all depends on your site. I always prefer not to use forum domain as with vBSEO i believe without a forum folder a better folder structure can be achieved. domain.com/forum1/ domain.com/forum2/ domain.com/blogs/ domain.com/tags/ etc..

IMO, if you don't have a 'site' to go with your forum, it should be in root.

but, if you have a site, and the forum is just a 'forum to discuss the site', then it should be in /forum.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

Does the location of the forum have any effect on SEO though or is it purely a question of taste?

the /deeper/you/go/, the less weight SE's look at the pages.

    Thanks Brian

I'm going to put it in the root then, as the only other application I am planning on running is vBA and I can cheat with that in the root

Do you have any idea (as a point of interest) how much weight most SE's apply to the directory depth?

    Regards,

    John
