    Question Upgrading from VB3.7.2/vbseo 3.2.0 to VB4.1.x/vbseo 3.6

    Hi,

my VB forum is still running on VB3.7.2/vbseo 3.2.0 but our servers are being upgraded to PHP 5.3 so I understand that either VB or VBSEO are not compatible with PHP 5.3 - BUT is that right? I've just checked System Requirements & I cannot see that I NEED to upgrade VB or VBSEO when we change to PHP 5.3 (we are currently on PHP 5.2.17)

I was thinking that I had better upgrade to the latest versions of both - which I think is VB4.1.7 or 8? (not sure?) & VBseo 3.6. Are there any guidelines here as the best way to go about this? If I need to do this.

    Thanks.

You will have issues with both systems. I can't speak for vb, but i believe 3.8.3 or 4 or 5 was the first 5.3 compatible build. I run 3.8.5 on 5.3 with no issues on my personal site. You don't have to move to vb4. vbseo requires vbseo 3.6 for php 5.3 compatiblity.

Thank you. Having done a bit more browsing, I don't see the need to upgrade to VB4 & will try & upgrade to the latest vb3.8 As for Vbseo when I looked at vBSEO Requirements it states "PHP
As of vBSEO version 3.5.0 RC2, vBSEO REQUIRES php 5, preferably php 5.2.x or higher. If you are still on php4, you will need to use vbseo 3.3.2 (not compatible with vb4.x)"

but are you saying that my older version of VBSEO 3.2 is NOT compatible with PHP 5.3 and that I have to upgrade to VBseo 3.6?

Please can you point me to the latest guidelines on HOW to upgrade from VBseo 3.2.

    Hello ,

In order to run vBulletin 4 you need to have PHp 5.2.x and only vBSEO 3.5.0 Gold or later versions support vB 4. All other RC vBSEO versions are not supported and may include many bugs.

Upgrade instructions are located inside docs folder within the package you download.

Thank you but my query is actually the other way around. Which versions of VB/VBSEO do I need to have to be compatible with PHP5.3? I am only upgrading because my hosting company is upgrading the servers to PHP 5.3.

Regarding vBulletin , i think it is best for you to contact them and request more information but even on vB 3.8.7 i have to manually correct couple places to get full PHP 5.3 support. vBSEO 3.5.0 Gold and future versions support PHP 5.3 fully. But we always suggest using the latest vBSEO version.
