trackbacks/pingbacks - way to increase inbound links

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but I've just worked out pingbacks/trackbacks.

A good idea is to post a current news article on your forum, e.g. Google Releases Analysis of Click-Fraud Detection (top story from slashdot.org). Either borrow someone else's write up, or do your own, then go out and find as many blogs that are discussing this topic, link to all these blogs/set trackbacks for them.

E.g.
Current discussions:
blogx.com/...
blogy.com/...

Hopefully if all goes well you now have heaps of new incoming links.

That's a great idea. And of course, you can find related blogs quickly via Technorati and other ping-enabled services. Cool

I'm seeing that alot of (maybe "most") bloggers have moderation turned on for ping/trackbacks. With products like Akismet out there, you need to be careful that you don't make trackbacks/pingbacks that bloggers will consider spam.

The basic idea is sound, just make sure your implementation of the idea doesn't get spammy.
