    Question Total noob question

I am a total noob at VBSEO and would like to know about these:

    What are:

    1)
    LinkBacks (Ping/Track/Refbacks)
    2)
    Permalinks
    3)
    Custom Rewrite Rules
    4)
    Custom Redirects
    5)
    Relevant Replacements
    6) URL Rewrite Settings

Also, will VBSEO start to index my site to search engines from the time I install it? How will I know my site it being crawled by search engines?

    Thanks

    1. A good explanation of linkbacks, trackbacks and refbacks is given here :
    vBulletin SEO Forums - LinkBacks

    3. Custom Rewrite Rules will allow you to "rewrite" those URLs which vbseo can't/won't rewrite by default, like your custom vBulletin pages, any extra pages that your modifications create (eg. Glossary, Arcade, Gallery, etc.). For example, turning :

    /arcade.php?act=arcade&do=play&id=532 to /games/play/532/

    4. Custom Redirects allow you to create URL Redirections without editing your .htaccess file. *Can* be used to create 'shortcuts' within your Forum too. For example, you can have :

yoursite.com/contest/ redirected to your contest announcement thread: yoursite.com/f123/our-new-contest-1234/

    5. URL Rewrite Settings. As it says in the description, don't change these settings often if a lot of your threads are indexed in Search Engines. (You can click on the '+' beside 'Advanced Settings' to display a plethora of URL rewrite settings and options. IFF you wish to customize your URL structure by hand.)

Very good explanations , however i want to mention something about customizing URLs. vBSEO comes with 6 different URL rewrite settings and each of these rewrite settings are carefully checked and tested. Thats why we strongly suggest everyone to choose one of the default rewrite rules because customizing URLs is a very risky thing. If you don't know what you are doing , you can create tons of flaws on your site which can create serious problems in long term.
