Thousands of 404 Not Found with Google Web Crawl

I've done everything you guys recommended here but on my Google Webmaster Tool Web Crawl result, I am getting like 2000 broken links, as follows:

    http://xxx.xxx/forums/1004-post1.html 404 (Not found)Help Help Aug 7, 2008

Why Google still tries to find link like forums/1004-post1.html anyway?

My Google indexed pages actually decreased a little bit over the past week or so.

I am on vBSEO 3.2 with sitemap generator.

    What am I missing?

    those are showpost links.

do you have showpost enabled? if not, its right to 404, and it will eventually drop out of the index.

I disabled it a while ago because you suggested me do so.

then that's good. google is recognizing that these links don't exist anymore, and will eventually drop out of the index altogether (which is what you want to happen).

Do you think this is the reason google keeps testing "/noexist_7097098.html" files against my site? I changed the 404's in a tutorial and added all your vBSEO custom rewrites (from the wiki site)... I hope this drops even though google insists on testing my 404 pages every 5 minutes.

it's fine. it will test pages multiple times before it drops a 404 from its index.

Glad I found this thread. After having no crawl errors to 500+ I did replace showpost with permalink so that explains it.

But I have 1 http error which is http://mysite.com/blogs/%user_name%/a-/
Is that to do with it as well? I only changed the site's name (up to .com) to the above url.

The only thing that I changed in the URL above is mysite, the rest is exactly what's shown in the report.

On my site the url is : http://mysite.com/blogs/member/

    So I'm not sure really.

Edit: the error detail is 400 detected on the 7th updated 13th

Edit2: I just saw google adsense spider viewing:
Location: Viewing Blog with a cross showing mysite.com/viewing error message

Again, are the actual URLs working correctly right now for the blogs?

If you mean from the website then yes. If so should I ignore the error report on Googles WT?

Yes, looks like a hiccup from a bad setting, but if they are working correctly now, then all is well.
