    Are tags really worth it?

Some of you might find this to be a stupid a question but I've been wondering if tags are really worth it? I've been debating if I should enable them but thought I'd ask what the opinion was on them to help me decide. Thanks.

    Hello Peter,

It all depends really. As they are currently used you may consider them as an interesting alternative for the 'similar threads' or 'thread prefixes' feature used by vBulletin, creating a quick accessible link to similar content.

Of course, with some imagination, they can also be used quite different. Screen Rant - TV and Movie News without the Sugar Coating (Wordpress) will give you a good example. Just hover over some links and see where tags are used and why.

Maybe I should of been more specific. What I mean by tags where users or admins type in tags for the thread. Are they good for SEO?

    Kinda...

a few well-thought out CONCISE tags are good. someone who just copies the enitre title into the tag block... not so good.

I allow them on my forum, but i do NOT include tag pages in my sitemap.

    I agree with Brian .

The importance is the usage , if you add valuable keywords as tags , it is really valuable. If you use auto tagger it just add useless keywords on the page.

Another question what is the best way to enable tags? Should I have them appear on the bottom of the thread or its not necessary. Im trying to whatever possible to use my seo at its best. At present the only way to view my tags are /forum/tags.php.. Thanks
