don't re-write them, and then block showpost.php in robots.txt
i went as far as to remove showpost.php from my server.
expand out your re-writ options with the PLUS(+) to get the full options.
find the one for 'rewrite showpost?'
set to no.
add
Disallow: /forumpath/showpost.php
to your robots.txt file, obviously replacing /forumpath with yours (or nothing if in root)
And, so long as you are using the permalinks option (as here on vbseo, ie
Single post question )
the showpost file itself does nothing, so i deleted it from my server.
Thanks for the help
K.. Thanks I removed from my server which should solve the problem but I get this error when I try to view single posts now
Warning: main(/homepages/23/d214103588/htdocs/showpost.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /homepages/23/d214103588/htdocs/vbseo.php on line 1129
Fatal error: main() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/homepages/23/d214103588/htdocs/showpost.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php') in /homepages/23/d214103588/htdocs/vbseo.php on line 1129
is this okay? and will spiders now stop crawling them
you need to also select the option for PERMALINKS instead of showpost.
Permalinks
Forum Permalinks - Replace post number link with permalink
seems to be working now. I put it back on my server and selected the option you suggested.
Thanks a lot
Brian so I take it your saying its good to get rid of single posts from the index? Does this cause I problem when used with the sitemap addon?

yes. Showpost is duplicate content.
Theres an option in the sitemap settings to not include showpost url's as well to go along with this
Sorry for some reason my eyes were malfunctioning when I set those settings up.
Oh well its removed now, cheers![]()
