the simple guide for getting more people to your site

ok. so there is a lot of info on this forum here. i was wondering if anybody could help me organize it a bit.

here is what i assume.


1. to get more people finding your site on search engines you should


- have a lot of relevant sites linking to your site

- have good content

- install vbseo

- tweak vbseo, create a proper site map,

- submit to google and yahoo







(can you guys help me fill in all the info i am missing)

I think relevant content and lots of it, with lots of relevant sites linking to you is a big part of it. I’m still learning myself, but Google seems to love fresh relevant content and lots of it. O that and sitemaps

Please let me know when you find some more stuff, I love reading SEO stuff centered around vBulletin.

can anybody help add to this list. i am sure there are hundreds of things i am forgetting.

What about proper code? I have been doing non-vbulletin web development and the proper use of tags like <h1> <h2> and such lead to better rankings by Google from what I have seen. I know someone that runs a blog site and he does this on the top of his site and says that as soon as he did it, he noticed a huge jump in rankings.

HTML Code:

<h1>Keyword :: 2nd Keyword :: .... :: 5th Keyword</h1>

Haven't tested it though, but I don't see why it wouldn't help.

It depents in what situation you are but starting administrators need to have interest in what their site is about and post unique content, this will get more traffic to the site sooner or later. All the small steps after to optimize are less important and only relevant for sites that already have a small group of users and content.
