Should I be entering a different format for RSS feeds when using VBSEO, than just VB?

    Hi,

Apologies if this question has been asked before, but I searched and couldn't find an answer.

Is the format to enter feeds like RSS and xml different than normal, or what is illustrated in the VB admincp?

The reason I'm asking, is because I tried the format in the backend, but cannot get the feed to work for a sepific forum.

Here is the format I am using to try an get them to work:

    Domain here/forum/external.php?type=RSS2&forumids=1

The backend says that the feeds need to be entered as a forum ID, but after installing VBSEO, all the forums changed to the name of the forums, not IDs.

Can someone either give me the specific format to use, or tell me how to find the forum IDs?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks ...

The forum Id hasn't changed... just the link to access it.

if you need to find the id of yoru forum, you can get them from the ACP, manage forum area.

There's a mod at vb.org that will do this automatically for all your forums. I forget the name of it though.

    Edited to add

I have another question that may sound stupid lol, but how do I get the descriptions to change in the feeds?

The RSS feed doesn't change text, so it doesn't look like it updated.

This means that if anyone picks up our feed on their blog/site, everyone will have the same text wouldn't it?

It also means since the same description is used, the variety of keywords is limited.

Or am I looking at it wrong?

    Thanks ...

    Mary

I'm not sure what your question is... can you rephrase?

the RSS is a snap shot of whatever forum/etc it is pulling at the particular time it is accessed.

    Hi Brian,

I know it's a snapshot, but the descriptions aren't changing at all. I had it set up since my last post too. That's been a couple of days or so.

    I finally turned it off.

Is this normal? Or do I have something set up wrong?

    Thanks btw ...

I got it fixed. I went out and found a Mod to work around the problem with VB, and that works good with VBSEO.

    Hi mmore5553,

    Sure, I installed the Sorky12 - RSS Feed Links - V1.0.0

I don't have a direct link at the moment, but you can go to www.vbulletin.oreg and do a search for "Storky" or "RSS Feed" Mods.

Btw yes, you can set it up for the one forum if that's all you want to do.

    Hope this helps ...
