I have been having an issue on my forum the last 20 days or so.

i have been getting various Memory spikes. out of the blue
these spikes crash the NAMED service on my VPS
and in some cases crash the HTTPD as well and the disruption to my forum can be anywhere from 1 minute to 1 hour.

i should note that

1) NO additions or changes were made to my existing setup by this i mean no new software was added that could be causing it
2) there has been no increase in user activity / posts etc
3) the Tech Support ASO advised me to upgrade the server software already.

im getting about 30 - 50 named crashes per 24 hours

curretnly ASO has upped my memory to avoid the crashes, but i am of the opinion there is no point in just upping the memory if we dont know whats causing the problem.. the easy thing would just be to go to the next up hosting plan and be done with it.. but the problem will still be there.

Anybody run into something similar or know what i should look at?

any help would be appreciated..
