Question Reorganizing The Forum: Need Advise

    Hello vBSEO experts!

I've been using vBSEO for long time now and very impressed by the product. I need your help with reorganizing our forum without losing out the SEO our site has achieved till now.

    1. Break One Section Into Two:
We have a section "Mechanical & Civil Engineering" and we wish to break it into two different sections titled "Mechanical Engineering" & "Civil Engineering" and then move the existing threads (around 850) into these forums each getting their respective threads.

What is the best way to do this?

The main idea here to have more valuable content to the top area where people can notice. Also make them reach faster. Instead of making the content clickable at 3th or 4th click keep it 2 click away. I hope you get the idea.
Also I made some advices here. Traffic Dropping Again Please check.

Threads will auto 301, so there's not too much to worry about with moving urls. Just DO NOT leave a vb redirect, as doing so will re-id all your threads. (the ID stays with the link, the new id goes to the actual thread at the new location)

Just to understand it better - you are suggesting that I should choose "Do Not Leave Permanent Redirect" while moving the threads, right? I should use something like " Leave an expiring redirect - in 5- days or so".

    chose "leave no redirect".

vbseo will handle it without vb's link/interaction.

Thanks a lot! Before I actually do it I'd like to have you look at the procedure I'm going to follow -

    1. Create The New Forum Sections
    2. Move the existing threads to the new sections with "leave no redirect"
    3. Once all the threads are moved, delete the old sections.

Please note that I have the following URL structure at present: -

    http: <space> //www.crazyengineers.com/forum/mechanical-civil-engineering/38063-water-waste-water-treatment-question-bank.html

The thread URL includes the forum name. I repaint it now but I had chosen to include forum section name (viz. mechanical-civil-engineering) in the threads. Will it have any negative effect?

The threads will auto 301. There's no getting around that. Having the forum name or even the ID in this case in the url, there is no way around this.

    example, this thread

    Reorganizing The Forum: Need Advise

we can pretend it was in forum 4 before.

and you can see by clicking it that it directs to the correct place.
