    Rather confused

    Hello,

For the last few weeks I have put alot of time and effort into trying to understand how google and other search enginees work. Ive had lots of words and phrases thrown at me such as PR, directories, linking pages and although I understand what each means im failing to understand the overall picture. Why are certain sites higher on the listings than others? How do you increase this?

Another problem I am having is that although my site has "Results 1 - 10 of about 132,000 from mirzone.net for . (0.06 seconds) " when I search for my url it isnt present. By that I mean site:mirzone.net works yet if I type www.mirzone.net or http://www.mirzone.net it does not even appear. This is the same for my other domain name despite the fact it is listed when I do the site: command as a return link. How are these links shown on google and why are my sites after three years still not showing the default link to my site or forum but rather a one off thread which is dead and burried.

    Thanks for any help,
    Anthony

    It's all a big puzzle.

    For example:

If I search Google for all pages on my domain that contain "showthread.php" in the URL (old URLs, prior to vBSEO, that still haven't been updated), I get 31,000 results.
    Search Link: site:fireblades.org showthread.php

Then, if I search Google for ALL pages it has indexed on my site, it only returns 753. How is that possible when I know there are at least 31,000 old URLs out there....?
    Search Link: site:fireblades.org

So whats the answer? Or is there no answer and is it down to luck?

I don't know.... I'm watching for the answer with you. I don't know that there will be an answer, since only Google knows...

Just run site map and now I have 35,000 and still all are random URLS and non of which are useful. Why do certain sites such as

    site:ragezone.com

Have such a good layout of search replies where as mine is not?
