    Question Problems Installing: Error 500

I just bought VBSEO 3.6 Gold. I already sent a ticket to VBSEO tech support. But I thought maybe other members had similar problems. Hopefully, I can get a quicker answer here.

    I followed the instructions exactly.

    A) I opened the ‘upload’ folder and uploaded everything to forums.saliu.com. No problem there.
    B) I made /vbseo/resources/xml/config.xml 666. I opened in IE9 vbseocp.php and entered the correct license key; the green checked marked appeared.
    C) I uploaded the vBSEO .htaccess file (located in the 'htaccess' folder) ; no problem there.

I was unable to even start step D. Go to your ADMIN CP > 'Plugin System' > 'Manage Products' > Click on [Add/Import Product]. I assume you meant my forum admin, because vBSEO does NOT show any 'Plugin System'.

Two grave problems occurred (and keep occurring):
    1) Trying to login to my forum (http://forums.saliu.com) triggers error 500: Internal server error.
    2) Trying to login to my vBSEO admin CP (http://forums.saliu.com/vbseocp.php) triggers error 500: Internal server error.

    Apache/1.3.33 Server at forums.saliu.com Port 80
    PHP 5.2
    SQL: 4.1 and 5.0

Please help me ASAP. I am frustrated, my visitors are frustrated, I lose money . . .

    Ion Saliu

    Hello,

Try enabling the rewrite Base directive in the htaccess file. Some servers require this setting (remove the # at the front of the line)

Thanks for your your quick response.

Unfortunately, it didn’t work. I changed .htaccess to read:
    RewriteBase /forums/

Another thing might be the fact that my forum is NOT http://saliu.com/forums/, but http://forums.saliu.com/

Anyway, everything related to vB seems to start with big headaches for me!!! And many members already curse me!!!

I just received this email from vBSEO tech support:

“There has been a problem with the email you sent with subject:
    Re: Problems Installing: Error 500 - [8430-OGJM-8555] [dba80c36]

    The error recorded is:
    No Tech Found”

    What does it mean?

By the way, my forum is still down. Other domains at Saliu.com are loading OK. I feel like burning (not to mention that we are already under a heat warning!!!)

    Better news!

I deleted .htaccess from the root of my forum folder. My forums came back to life. I was able to login as the admin of my forums and imported vBSEO. I was able also to login to my vBSEO admincp.

Still, I don’t see any sign that vBSEO was installed. There is no copyright sign anywhere on my forum threads or posts. I checked the settings of my vBulletin installation and the plugins are enabled. What gives? Did I pay US$150 for nothing?

What’s wrong with that htaccess file? My website has had an htaccess file for many years now, including 301 redirects. I haven’t used the www. in my domain name for many years now! vBSEO must be a whole lot more than simply adding redirects to a domain name . . .

Thanks in advance for illuminating me.

More curious things triggered by this vBSEO installation!

    I edited htaccess to read:
    RewriteBase /

I uploaded htaccess specifically as ASCII. My forums opened OK this time. But, still no sign of vBSEO in my forums! Looks like I did NOT install it, although I have an admincp.

Hopefully, we are getting closer and closer to solving the problem. I hope also that the solution to my problem will help in the future other forum administrators as well.

Shall we say “All’s well that ends well”?

Apparently, vBSEO was finally installed in my forums. I assume the plugin works, as I’ve seen this notice on one of my forum pages:

“Powered by vBulletin™ Version 4.0.7 Copyright © 2011 vBulletin Solutions, Inc. All rights reserved.
Content Relevant URLs by vBSEO 3.6.0”

Apparently, the glitch is caused by the htaccess file. Maybe it’s a good idea to upload it at the end. Then, if it doesn’t work, the Readme file should inform the webmaster about commenting out the line RewriteBase /.

Also, the forum admin should check that plugins are enabled not only in the control panel, but also in the original config file.

Thanks again to all! Best of luck!
