    Exclamation Possible duplicate content issue?

    Hello,

I noticed that Yahoo! and MSN indexes the pound sign (#) in URLs. I think because of the 301 redirect. So the following URLs would all have the same content and source code.

    domain.com/forums/thread-title-id25.html#post2
    domain.com/forums/thread-title-id25.html#post3
    domain.com/forums/thread-title-id25.html#post7
    domain.com/forums/thread-title-id25.html#post10

Are there issues with this now, and if not now, maybe in the future? Thanks.

That's interesting. The '#' symbol is just a directive to jump to an inpage anchor... in this case, a particular post.

    Hey whats up,
I am actually incredibly concerned about this because I just launched my forum and already see this problem in MSN with the pound signs (1 day later). What can I / should I do to prevent this from giving me 100% dup content?

I think this needs to be addressed right away.

    Thanks
    John

Edit: I see those posts were from a while ago, is this problem fixed in the latest release or what?

    Hello,

the "#postX" part cannot be removed from URL since it will cut the functionality from your vBulletin forums (i.e., browser will not scroll to the selected post after loading).
Also, I'm absolutely sure that this cannot be considered to be duplicate content - according to RFC specification everything after '#' is not even a part of "URL" (and is not sent to the server with request): rfc1808

Awesome, thanks a lot for the clarification. When I checked some other forums that were running this, there seemed to be no problem, I think it is just as my forum is initially indexed.
