portal, or index ? whats the best for SEO

I'm thinking about making www.locoforum.com/portal.php actually my index.php and then rename the old index to something..forums.php maybe ?

what are your thoughts, as far as SEO, I've tried to make the current index with new links that I am targeting constantly changing " upcoming shows"

I can make a similar module for the cms, so I don't think I'll lose much there..

anyways, Just wondering what you think..

Personally, i hate portals. They are too redundant for me. I can't say anything about it's seo properties though.

Think of it like this though:
a portal has a lot more text on it usually that the forumhome does, thus, you have more chances of picking up key words.

This can also be a problem though, as it's constantly changing. a person may search, find your site, go to yoru site, and then the text that was highlighted is no where to be found because it was from a thread 3 weeks ago that is long gone from the home page.
user clicks back button.

so, it can be positive for hits, but it might be negative for community building.

but again, this all just my speculation
