Yep, that's what we did here. vBSEO rewrites the whole '/archive/index.php' part.

Thanks. I was goofing around with mine the other night after looking at yours and actually changed the path to sitemap - in hindsight this was really boneheaded - my google went from 92,100 to 11,900 after a few days. I really shouldn't do anything late at night!!! I hope I get it back.
What was the reasoning for changing the word archive to sitemap?

Hello Everyone,
I've decided to remove the "Archive" link in the footer all together, is that going to have an effect on being indexed? The Archive page is still on my website, just no link in the footer.
The reason I removed it is that to me its a sitemap of only my forums section and not a true sitemap of my whole website, therefore I removed it because it does not include my complete website.
