Ping/Trackback Test Thread

This is what I call so absolutely fabulous, that its just blown my mind. vBSEO, you rule the world.

Yes, I know that there has probably been something around vBOrg somewhere with this particular feature, but to have it as part of the vBSEO package is just out of this world.

Getting links is such a pain and so wrought with difficulties - per the Matt Cutts/Google blog post explaining about how Big Daddy is treating links and lack of links, they mention that blog links are great.

So what about blog links are so great??? Basically, they are "relevant" links. There is enough text around the link that the link is relevant for the title/meta description/wording on the page. And hopefully, there are not too many links on the page as it is not a links directory page.

Now, one of the big questions - I hate admin!!!! And yet in my other life, I have been a Chartered Accountant. Having trackbacks means that there is something more to have to approve. But thankfully, the trackbacks are something that there should be no difficulty in approving. As compared to the umpteen hundreds of reciprocal links directory links that are sitting in my inbox to approve. So many of the links are on pages that are not cached, even after months of being on the other directory. Many are on pages that have over 100 links on the page. So vBulletin blogging, here we come.

Maybe its the fact that in New Zealand its Friday night, and I have had a glass of wine, and some amazing boutique beer- Monteiths Rich Celtic Red Beer. But somehow, something has got me raving about this fab enhancement on vBSEO.

So could there be any improvements specifically with the vbseo blog feature???

Well, looking at my vbBulletin Blog post on my coreseo blog, I don't particularly like how the signature comes through on the trackback into wordpress. The formatting is not the best in wordpress, and having all that sig text just looks crap. Stick with the content of the post imo.

I agree. The post content seems all crammed in with the signature.

If it could be better formatted... Some linebreaks maybe?

I'd prefer it is the signature wasnt included at all. The inclusion of the "_______" seperator really makes the trackback look clumpsy and condensed.

The first try above was a first unread post link..... shouldn't trackbacks still function?

A trackback can be sent only when creating a new thread as you must enter the trackback URL in a special field.

Pingbacks (links), on the other hand, can be sent from any post

could the pingback not follow the redirect, just in case someone inadvertently links to jump to last post, jump to first unread, etc.

Hi Rob,

the "permalinks" should be used for pingbacks as well as trackbacks ("last post" and "new post" links will result in different URLs depending on user and current number of posts in thread).
