PHP Caching - VBSEO Cache or vBulletin Datastore Cache or both?

    Hi,

I'm a bit confuses here. I used to use Xcache along with the Datastore cache mode from vB.org:

datastore cache to XCache - boost your vBulletin - vBulletin.org Forum

Last I switched to a new server, installed Xcache and enabled the caching option as Xcache in vBSEO cp.

Can I use the Datastore cache along with vBSEO's cache? What exactly is the difference between both?

I posted it in vB 3.1 release thread and got Danny's reply here:

    vBSEO 3.1.0 Released!

But sill i'm wondering why use both if they are doing the same thing? OR it'll be great if both when combined give better results.

    Thanks in advance.

    Helo..
    AFAIK..
vbseo -it self doesnt cache any thing at all..
but vbseo will be cached with any cacher(xcache/apc/eAcc)
u have to enable xcache from vbseo cp.

vBSEO does not have anything to do with its own caching system. It configures the cache for the new vbseo

VBSEO appears to store a single variable (vbseo_storage) in the selected cache system (such as xcache).

However - I also notice that although vbseo makes use of the vb datastore (to store vbseo_options) - it does not use vb datastore class and calls - instead it reads/writes directly to the mysql datastore table. This is bad. I use xcache for the vb datastore and vbseo is bypassing this.

Thanks Paul. So that setting will only affect vbSEO's own caching not for vBulletin. I'm using Xcache as Datastore cache for vB and vBSEO's setting turned on since the date of first post. No probs so far.

@Paul: One question. My forum is almost similar to yours in size. How's the server loads? I'm on Dual Quad Xeon box. Also are you using memcache?

My loads are always < 1 - I use xcache only.
