Question Performance issues on large boards?

I was wondering if any of you had experience with this. I have a forum that will hit 1 Million posts in about two months, at the current rate of 4.5-5,000 posts per day. I am getting a separate DB server next week, i was still concerned with the load that vBSEO puts on the web server. Will I run into significant troubles later or is the load created negligible?

vBSEO installs and runs smoothly for very large and active forums. Performance issues only tend to pop up when (a) the server resources are *already* over-taxed, or (b) a pre-existing configuration error/problem on your server.

Since you are already adding a new database server, I would recommend vBSEO-enabling your forum once the new server is up and running, fully tested, and running smoothly.

Once you get vBSEO installed, the support team can help you with moving your .htaccess directives into the http.conf file along with some other tweaks to create an optimum performance environment.

Do I need to open a ticket to get those tweaks?

    Thanks,

    Hi Liam,

Yes, if you'd like, just open a support ticket describing your current set-up, performance level, and intend to do some tweaking.

    Hi Joe,
thanks for the response. As you can see, I already run vBSEO on my forum, and that successfully. The forum is just taking off to a point where I have to add the extra server and I was concerned how much stress the mod_rewrites put on the system.

I will definitely get back to you regarding the tweaks next week.

The server upgrade is in place, now two Dual Xeon 3.2Ghz with 4GB RAM are powering the forum, one for the HTTP web server front end, and another for the DB backend. Definitely significant and noticeable performance increase, the members are loving it, too. Thanks for this wonderful program, it was well worth the investment. In about two months I'll be hitting my millionth post and the traffic numbers are soaring.
