one forum has 52,000 indexed.. me 67,000 indexed.. but... problem

I dont know how this actually works,

But I seen a forum with vbseo installed that has around 52,000 indexed pages in google and all are re-written links from vbseo and they have ALOT of guests online from their pages popping up in search engines and etc, with the help of vbseo of course..

On the other hand, google is showing 67,000 pages indexed for me, but only goes to page 10 of the results and from that point, others are omitted , meaning they are still the old vb pages using the ?php and etc etc

How exactly can I get all of my pages re-written like the other forum and why has it taken my site longer to do this process?

I believe I had vbseo installed before this forum.

I rather not put the urls in public.. any opinions?

    Hi

There is a long overdue enhancement of the vbseo sitemap coming rather soon. The vbseo sitemap will shortly have the option to include all the old url's, as well as the new rewritten url's.

Google likes spidering to find url's, and keeps wandering around the web following links. Only problem is, that when you change your url's and have no more links to them, Google can't find any paths to the old links, therefore it keeps them in its index. If it was to find links into the old url's, it would find a 301 redirect, and so know that the old url's had changed to the new url's, and so delete the old url's from its index.

I like to have things tidy, and I also like to have Google reassign its internal PR attached to the old url's, to the new ones. There are a number of ways to do this. But the easiest way, is to use the fab Google sitemap facility and list both the old and new url's.

Therefore Google gets rid of the old, reassigns the old PR to the new url's, gets the old url's SERP placement transferred to the new, ...

Another way is to have a physical on site sitemap with all the old url's in it, or I personally have also added a footer link in vbulletin threads to the old thread url. But with the advent of the Google site map, the easiest way is to use it to speed up the transfer of the old to new.

Just remember, its not the number of url's that you have indexed that matters, but how high those url's are for searches on Google.

    Simple.

It does not clean out all the links, as the sitemap doesnt include all the sorting url's. But its pretty clean, and over time Google does respider based on its index, and so it does the spring clean itself, but that can be a few months. Occassionally Google includes an old index in its results and so all the old url's can look like they are back even though you have seemingly long got rid of them.

Why only to page 10 - you can click on the "include omitted results" and see the remainder.

Are you vBulletin 3.5, or previous??? Pre vBulletin 3.5, all threads/forums had the same meta description. This would have created the filter issue you described.

So I suggest that you upgrade to vbulletin 3.5 series as well as vbseo. Between them, you will have better titles and meta descriptions. Then have a good read of the url mentioned in my sig about how to change the templates to give even better onpage SEO. You will struggle to get good rankings (unless you have fab Google PR), until you make the changes mentioned in my thread.
