    Nofollow

With certain user submitted links on my website I am attempting to insert "nofollow" code like in this example:

    Google

however when I do this it does not work, so I go back and edit the thread and I see additional characters have been added to the link, like this:

    Google

It is adding %22%20rel=%22nofollow into the url and screwing it up.

is this a vbSEO setting doing this?

Honestly i have no idea what is the exact issue you are facing but vBSEO only adds rel=nofollow to url itself and it is only visible when you check page source.

thanks Mert, I am manually adding the nofollow only to a few links in specific posts on the forum, after editing when I save the post the link no longer works so I edit it again and when I look at the raw code it has those % signs and numbers added in. I can't figure this one out.

No, that's because you may've added the coded in a wrong way, by example, you may've used it like:
    Code:
    %22%20rel%3D%22nofollow
and a correct procedure would be using it for new links as a plugin for vB.

There's a vBSEO feature that could fit your needs at the SEO functions: NoFollow for internal and external links.
