No more 301's, just the correct URL

I noticed how the system uses url's that are never anything more than 301 redirects for things like new posts and particular posts.

Yahoo and MSN seem to have issues and are indexing the 301 url and not the end target url. How do I make it so VBSEO no longer does these 301 URL's and just points straight to the #post123 url?

Look at some of the issues Yahoo & MSN have

    Hello,

the latest vBSEO version has "Direct Links to Threads For Guest Visitors" option to handle this.

OK I checked and I have that on and when I'm logged out I see the links like you say. unfortunatly, I think this thread may need to get moved to the bug forum because somehow bad URLs are being sent to Google & Yahoo. This is just one of many entries in my log files.

    66.249.66.47 - - [15/Feb/2007:11:58:34 -0500] "GET /forums/f22/samsung-x830-inspirational-phone-576-post1876/ HTTP/1.1" 301 5 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Googlebot/2.1; +http://www.google.com/bot.html)"
    74.6.72.125 - - [11/Feb/2007:08:29:23 -0500] "GET /forums/f36/cases-etc-536-post1788/ HTTP/1.0" 301 0 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Yahoo! Slurp; http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/ysearch/slurp)"
I think the URLs might be coming from the RPC pinging service or RSS feeds as both Yahoo & Google are being pinged. But I thought those feeds and pings only had to do with the actual threads and not individual posts.

This option affects "go to new post" links only.

I don't understand what you mean? Can you explain further?

So is there a way to make it so search engines no longer see links like:
    /forums/f36/cases-etc-536-post1788/
    /forums/f36/cases-etc-536-new/

    And instead only see
    /forums/f36/cases-etc-536/#post1788

Because right now the SE's seem to be seeing all three and Yahoo & MSN have a problem with the first 2.

This vBSEO option should let you replace this link:
    /forums/f36/cases-etc-536-new/
    with:
    /forums/f36/cases-etc-536/

You are right, I checked all my logs and no use of the "new" urls are being crawled.

    So how do I change

    /forums/f22/samsung-x830-inspirational-phone-576-post1876/

    to

    /forums/f22/samsung-x830-inspirational-phone-576/#1876

How would any other db calls be needed? Every single piece of information needed to create url #2 is already present in url #1

You would also need the page number to create correct URL.
