New Install -- all kinds of broken links

I've used VBSEO on 5 of my VB 3.7 and 3.8 forums and everything just pretty much worked out of the box.

But today I installed 3.5.1 PL1 on my new VB 4.0.5 forum and now all kinds of links are broken. I keep getting errors about the member not being registered.

First it was albums. So, I turned that off in VBSEO.

Next it was attachments. So I turned that off in VBSEO

After that none of the Blog links worked. So I turned that off in VBSEO

Now, the profile links aren't working.

It seems like I have to turn 90% of VBSEO off to get the links to work.

Is 3.5.1 PL1 that different? Or is it VB 4.0.5 that is that different.

Is there any one thing I'm doing wrong?

Thanks for the help, in advance.

Hi Paul, sounds like your install isn't complete or correct in some fashion. There is only one issue with attachments known right now, and there is a fix available:
    After upgrading vbseo 3.5.1 PL1

Make sure you imported the vb4 product file, not the vb3 one.

What I'm finding is all the stock rewrites use /members and that breaks all my links. When I go into advanced and manually select the options with /member then all my links start working again.

But -- should that really be the case Brian? There are a LOT of /members settings. shouldn't the rewrite make that work?

I did install the 4.0 XML.

Do you have a folder physically on your sever called members? Basically you can't 'fake' a folder where a real folder actually exists.

    Hey Brian,
No, I don't and I don't have one that is /member either. When I set up my VBSEO normally (default settings) it puts /members/ in the path unless I manually go into the Advanced settings and choose an entry that is /member-id it links break all over the place and I get a "member not registered yet" error.

Here's what I'm talking about. See the choices for /members/user_name? And, see the choice I have selected? When any of the /members/user_name choices are selected I get linking errors.

Normally, I don't need to make these kinds of adjustments, the defaults just work.

When I set it up for default setup my username gets rewritten but /members/ is put in front of it.

Here the link to my profile I get with the standard default setup:

    http://www.axetalk.com/forum/members/axetalk/

And when you click this you get:

    vbseo2.jpg

When I change the setting manually to member-id/ the link to my profile becomes:

    http://www.axetalk.com/forum/member-axetalk.html

    And my profile comes up.

Why don't the default setting work for me?

    Hello,

possibly there is a conflict with another URL format, can you please provide vbseocp/ftp access via support ticket to check it?

Sure. I just sent the ticket. Make sure you get back to me about what the issue is assuming that you find it. Sometimes in the past things have been fixed, but I've not known what was done.

    Thanks

Hey could it be a conflict with the .htaccess file that VB4 users? I kept it in tact, but added the VBSEO contents below the VB contents. Also, I have SEO turned off in VB 4.

    Yes, that is likely it.

the vb4 htaccess file should NOT be used at all. just use the vbseo file.

OK that seems to have been the problem. Why didn't the install document so much as mention the VB .htaccess file??
