Jump to box - good or bad

I saw a performance optimization tip that says:

Remove Jump to box and performance goes up.
If you have many forums, then the html code for the jump to box is big and uses bandwidth.

This is correct, as I think.
But ... could it be that the jump to box is good, because its content is about important words for my forums that search engine should recognize?

    What do you mean?

whether it's good or bad, i think its a huge user usability feature.

i find myself annoyed on sites that don't have it, having to scroll all the way back to the top of the page to go somewhere.

At the end of the day, we need to build our sites for users, not for bots. Tweaking to get the most out of the bots is always important, but not when it comes at a sacrifice to the user IMO.

In the same breath, if you have 1000 forums, i think it will do more harm than good.
but if you ahve a normal forum (like vbseo... 5-10 mian cats with 5-10 subs in each) i think its best to leave it on

You could disable it for guests only, which would minimize usability issues, particularly for members who would be unaffected when logged in.
