Lightbulb Issue with CDN and any private (not guest access) forum

Well today we start testing the CDN features as we used MaxCDN for a long time in our forums and we detect a special situation that vBseo should know and all the community.

In the private forums where you set permission for not guest access the attachments get the same limits and the CDN is not able to access to the files for the cache.

So, we need use the CDN for all forums, but if the CDN cannot access to the files the registered users will not see the files in the private forum.

I contacted vBulletin support with the issue to verify that there is not setting to void this and allow any CDN to cache our files and I got this:

“Sorry, there is no function to do this. This requires modifying the code. ”
This is very important or the new CDN feature WONT be working in all the forums in net that have or use private forums (or not guest access to any forum).

    Thank you for your help.

We are sorry but there is nothing we can do about this. If you want to move your attachments to CDN , you need to make sure all your attachments have guest access.

CDN's can't process any permissions/php. If they aren't able to be viewed without any query, it won't function.

Ok, but there is no option in vBulletin or vBseo to set the attachments available for all users. We can keep the forums private and the attachements publics and that solve the problem. But Why you didnt do a modification in order to allow that?

You're right, and I agree, it's not 100% perfect. Please keep in mind, this is our first iteration of a CDN product, which is not even Gold yet. There will be issues like this that need resolving and improving over time.

i'd like to join in the conversation.
I just found out about this limitation myself, and attachments being attachments are one of the most important thing to cache via CDN.
I would really like to see vbseo tackle this problem, as i do understand this is a problem.
It's either letting unregistered users see and download attachments (which can't be done without code modifications as well) or serving attachments from the origin server.
VBSEO - please help us with this

Plus, a question, what is the attachment checkbox for in the cdn configuration window? If i check it it breaks the forum for the exact same reason.

The checkbox is the enable/disable button for each section.

We are aware of the issue, as listed in the 'limitations' section

How does one set attachment permissions to be visible for guests?

OK, found the answer to this one. The answer (as with a lot of vbulletin) is lots of places. Went to admincp > usergroup > usergroup manager, then edited permissions for unregistered to see thumbnails and download attachments.
