I'm lost... losing 1000's of indexed pages on google.

I've read the articles about google's problem with losing indexed pages. I'm noticing dissapointing trend though: People are dramatically losing indexed pages after installing vbseo.

Now I understand what the product does. The product itself does not give you more pages indexed in the search engine, and that is not at all what I am looking for. What it does is help make your indexed pages more optimized for search results.

In the 2 weeks I have used VBSEO I have gone from 50,000+ pages indexed to 24. Of that 24, only 4 or 5 are urls actually rewritten by vbseo.

Google is still crawling my site. Viewing the sitemap logs I am getting anywhere from 5k to 20k googlebots a day.

Are their any tips on how I can reverse this process? Before, most of my traffic came from google.

    Thanks for reading,

    Corey

Lot of people have problem with this, so you are not alone and they are not running vBSEO either. I also saw that domain names with a hyphen have more problem than others and is a bug in the the site: command.

Directly after Big Daddy update I lost maybe 50% of my indexed pages in Google but since then its is going up steadily again and now back to normal numbers before Big Daddy.

    Nicke,

Here's a discussion on the Big Daddy Chaos:

After installing vBSEO, part of the process is to purge duplicate content pages from the results. Of course, all of your 50k pages were not duplicate content, so I expect it to be a temporary fluctuation before your indexed page count jumps back up.

Many users experience large jumps up/down in the Google SERPs as they roll out changes/tests on their various data centers.

    Hello Corey,

I see that your forum homepage PR is 0. I'd recommend to start building quality links in to that page. I've noticed that lower PR forums usually take longer to get re-indexed.

I can confirm that, my site has a hyphen in it and I'm down to 2 indexed pages at the moment. I'm working on fixing some things as suggested by briansol in another thread on this forum which also might have had impact on my site's figures. Indexed pages at Yahoo and MSN have been growing slowly but steadily (and still are...). Not all is bad.

I also have a hyphen in my domain name but still 34,600 pages indexed in Google as of today. (It was ~17k after Big Daddy one month ago)

Yahoo 356,000 indexed pages and better than ever, it started when I installed vBSEO, i think.

But according to webmasterworld, a lot of people with hyphen in domain names have big problems, as I said above.

Hehe, I didn't have much to begin with: only 2,000 odd indexed pages. At least my indexed pages have doubled since yesterday...

Is it possible that when submitting my VBSEO sitemap with the new links, that Google may just "assume" that my old-non VBSEO urls are no longer valid?

    Hello Corey,

I don't think this may be the case.
