html doctype repeated in showthread pages

Has anyone else got this problem? The $stylevar[htmldoctype] variable in the SHOWTHREAD template comes out twice on the page ie:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
Even though it's written only once on the template; and in other templates it's fine. I suspect vbseo is doing something it shouldn't - could other vbseo users check, im using the latest version.

It is highly caused by your style or a modification. You should try checking your pages with default vB Style

Thanks for the quick reply - you're right, I just checked! Hmm, my board runs a lot of mods and the style is customised, is there any place you'd suggest I look first?

You may want to first check SHOWTHREAD template to see if doctype is included once or twice. If it is included twice , i suggest you to manually disabling each of your mod one by one to find out which one is causing the problem.

We have a lot of mods so will take some time to do - do you think it really matters? Will it affect our SEO if html is malformed by a duplicate doctype? Thanks!

    May not affect your SEO.

But it can cause layout/rendering issues with IE (esp. 6)
as it displays the page in Quirks mode when malformed HTML is thrown at it.
