    .htaccess question

Question from newbee... Just installed last night and everything is working great. I have noticed the spiders going deeper into my site then ever before

I have the .htaccess file in my domain/forums directory, should I have an .htaccess file im my domain root directory or does the one in my domain/forums directory have me covered?

What is the best .htaccess setup for a site with the forums located in the domain/forums directory?

    Thanks
