How long before google indexs the sitemap contents?

    Hello.

I recently uploaded a sitemap with approx 2 million URLs in it which, according to google webmaster tools, has been read fine.

    A few questions:

    1. Does anyone know how long before an uploaded sitemap is available in the google index?
    2. According to the webbot stats google is reading 30,000 pages a day. This could take quite a while to index the whole site. Is that how it works, or is there a way to speed it up?
    Thanks

    DB

They read the sitemap; however, they still have to crawl each page (as you noted, 30,000/day).

There is also no guarantee that they will index every page. However, you with a crawl rate of 30,000 for day, you should be getting lots of new pages indexed everyday.

    Hi Joe,

Thanks for your reply. So the fact that the number of pages in google isn't going up, does that mean they're just not interested in the new pages?

If that's the case, is there anyway of making them interested?

I started about 6 days ago and so far no change in the number returned from a site:www.mysite.com

    Thanks for the info..

I installed the sitemap generator 4 days ago, but noticed Google is still crawling for the urls in the old sitemap (previous software, not vb)..

Any idea how long does it takes Google to refresh the list after a sitemap change?

    Best Regards

Did you delete and resubmit the new sitemap?

If you no longer have the links from the old one then I suggest you delete that one.

But resubmitting doesn't means it will erase the content of the old one and use the new one? Right now it's reading the new one with the new links...
