You can change to our preset in the Forum URLs section. 002 for all parts.

Note: If your site is established and indexed, it is NOT a good idea to change url formats.

vBSEO team, I want to change the URL's of my site as so...

    1. I want to move my forums to the root so the forum url changes from www.site.com/forums/ to www.site.com

    2. I will use these post as a guide: Moving to forum root + vBSEO 3.5 Release Candidate 1 is here!

    3. Will it harm my Search Engine Ranking if I make this change? If so, any other alternatives?

    Thanks.

Anytime you change/move urls, expect to take a hit. The 301's help, but there will still be a re-indexing process. It might not be noticeable, but it might be rough for a few months. There's no way to predict it.
