How do I know if my settings are giving me the best results?

I've had the program for a couple years now, and I've seen a boost in traffic. But I don't know if that's due to vBSEO, or if it's natural growth on Google, or if it's from my own hard work.

How do I know if my settings are setup for the ultimate results?

Yeah but that doesn't set up my settings properly for me. Only tells me people's opinions.

vBSEO is designed to not allow you to do bad things, unless you go crazy with the customizations instead of using presets. Beyond that, it's a matter of personal choice as to how you want things to look on your site.

I'm not expecting it to do bad things, I just want Optimum settings for maximum results.

That's just it-- there is no such thing. It's personal preference. There is 0 evidence that says 1 preset works better than another for ranking.

So you're telling me the software that is designed to increase your SEO comes down to personal preference?

    No.

98% of what vBSEO does it hard-coded in the back end and you never see it.

The other 2% is formatting, and that's what you see in the CP and that is what is personal preference.
