Question How do big boards handle performance isues?

We have a little trouble with the performance overhead vbseo is causing. Still working on a solution with the team here, I'm not sure it will help, otherwise we even maybe have to change servers to be able to use vbseo later on. FYI we use a celeron 2.4 server and this gives us problems with high sever load on a forum with 200 online members during busy moments and 50-150 members most of the time online.

Who has similar stats or more, are here admins with big boards, and how did you deal with the performance isue? What server do you use etc?

I'm just very curious about this and maybe you have some tips and/or experience to share with me

    thanks

Celeron 2.4 is weak server for 200 online members regardless of vbseo or not... I would step up to atleast a Pentium 4 3GHZ w/ Hyperthreading...

I will give feedback on my server loads which hosts two popular Ford Mustang sites when I get this installed.

My server specs and optimizations so far and the results of my install:

    Pentium 4 2.0Ghz
    512MB
    80 GIG EIDE

    Apache 2.0.46 Redhat
    PHP 4.4.0
    MySQL 4.1.14

    Eaccelerator
    Ioncube

    my.cnf optimize by vbulletin.com staff eva2000
    same for php.ini and httpd.conf

Server loads before never touched 1+ usually aroun .50

    Server loads at typing this:

    .70

I have seen it reach 1.1 a few times... it has increased the server load no doubt but as for right now not drastic enough to cause a problem.

Tomorrow may tell a different story when we hit peak times.

Yeah it's true, celeron is weak, for our site. We plan to upgrade but this was for next year.

Between the two sites I host:

My site with vbseo: 25 members, 60 guests
Other site without vbseo: 27 members, 55 guests

At the time of posting.... not huge but active enough for people to be clicking threads every few seconds...

This is good to know, do you have any other optimizations done? I figured I can just throw more ram at mine if I get to the point of my site starts crawling at the current setup since you have a weaker server but a tad bit mroe online at once.

I should note that it also appears that 2.1.1 is causing lower loads than 2.0 or 2.1.

    How is that possible ConqSoft

You have a 'weaker' server but less load? /me goes nuts

Anyways, I just found out that it is a HUGE difference when you disable all but the most important settings in vbseo. My load went from 25 to 5, so it's tolerable now.

But really Conqsoft, very strange that you have so low loads with those stats, I must be doing something wrong I guess...

Have you had your my.cnf file optimized at vBulletin.com and have you installed either Eaccelerator or APC php caching software? These help alot!

What verison PHP and MySQL are you using?

    FreeBSD here.

I also have searching disabled for guests, so only the 50-70 online registered members would be doing any type of searching. (Also have the mySQL FullText Searching option enabled.)

I have Zend installed, but not eAccellerator.

    PHP 4.3.10
    MySQL Version 4.0.20-log

    My setup:

    Php 4.4.0
    Mysql 4.1.14
    Eaccelerator
    Ioncube
    optimized my.cnf

I would highly recommend upgrading to Php 4.4.0 and the latest version of 4.0.x

As well as installing eaccelerator as I notice a huge decrease in server load when it is installed.
