The likes and share areas are pure CSS controlled. You can edit it to anything you wish within vbseo/resources/css/vbseo_buttons.css file

    Riiiightoooo,

I've changed the CSS in that file and the changes are not reflected. It seems the css is coming through in the roll up but it appears to be cached somehow. I've tried editing a few CSS templates but the vBSEO css parts are still persisting.

    Any ideas?

If you are using vBulletin 4 you need to edit vbseo_buttons.css template , if you are using vBulletin 3.x you need to use vbseo/resources/css/vbseo_buttons.css file

This seems to break modifications that people have used to remove the ton of white space between post content and signature when postbit profile fields are long.... ie, Mert's post is a perfect example.

The signature block does not start until the postbit area is gone. Which creates a TON of extra (unnecessary) white space.

Anyone know of a fix? I tried coming up with something but it resulted in scroll bars in some posts.

This is default vb behavior and completely unrelated to this thread.
    eg:
Can I upgrade from 3.6.8 directly to VB4

There's no fix for it... it's by design. If it doesn't work for you, you will need to make a custom skin that allows for this and not use the vb core skin.

The vb skin is a grid.

    think a 2x2 table.

if avatar is longer than post, post has a space.
if post is longer than avatar, avatar has a space.

You should not use that , it will cause more issues on long run.

Well Mert, I'd love to have an ideal long-term solution. What do you suggest?

I suggest to leave things as it is , as you can see your current message things display correctly. If you don't want the additional spacing above signature area the best way is inheriting .postbitlegacy .postrow.has_after_content css value. Currently it is defined as 4em. You can try reducing that . It is the ideal solution to reduce spacing , not the one in that thread.
