Host Change!

Hello vBSEO,

I'm planning to change hosting and I would like to know from you guys, whats the best way to move my vBulletin forum with all my current files in the home directory to my new server with a domain change!? Please give me some advice and stuff I need to look out for.

permissions (chown/chmod) are the hardest part about moving servers. Be sure that after you move you check your write directories and that your new webserver is the one that owns it, not the old one.

The easiest way is to use cpanel's WHM move function. If you don't have cpanel, you could always do an ftp for the files, and a db dump for the db's.... but then you need to re-make any emails, non root ftp's, etc...

domain change is a whole different story. You will need to make a ticket here to have the new url be on your license. Then, you need to get some 301 rules together to get the content you may have spidered on the old domain to the new domain.
