Got to get rid of encryption

I'm getting really annoyed with the Zend and Ioncube requirements for vbseo - it's a complete pain in the rear, especially when having to move servers.

I appreciate that vbseo wants to protect it's intellectual rights, but at present using encryption is making life awkward as customer, and I'm starting to really resent it.

I have around 20 vbseo licences, and if I have to move servers, there's usually unnecessary work involved in moving the forums because of the encryption requirement.

I've usually defended vbseo as a product and promoted it's benefits on other forums - but to be honest, my patience is really beginning to wear thin on this issue.

Bottom line is that I don't think you should make your customers have to jump through hoops to protect your own interests, when surely there has to be better ways to protect your own rights without making life more difficult for customers.

ionCube is very easy to install at the server level, as is Zend, so I'm not sure what you mean by "jumping through hoops"?

Do you move servers very often?

But to answer your question, there are no plans to release an unencrypted version of vBSEO at this time.

    Thanks

What I mean is that I've just moved some forums to new shared hosting accounts.

But because of the requirements of vbseo, what is already a not-fun situation is made even worse by the precise encryption requirements of vbseo.

I really think you need to pay more attention to the shared hosting customers, and take their requirements into consideration.

As above, because I have a fairly large number of licences, these issues do come up periodically, and I fell punished as a customer because your requirements for encryption to make your life easier make my life harder.

Windows XP requires 128mb of ram to run.
Their code is encrypted to protect their interests.

If you have 32mb of ram machine, XP will not run.

    Do you complain to MS?

vbseo is NOT open source software.

had vB been an ASP application, vbseo would most likely come to you in DLL format and you would need to install a COM object.

    It's a very common practice.

In the future, perhaps it would be best to research your new possible hosts more thoroughly so that before you even buy, you will know if you have to do anything to support the requirements that vBSEO requires before you even move your sites.

In all honesty, if you have 20+ vB-powered sites, I don't know why you're on shared hosting in the first place. A VPS is probably a better solution for you at this stage in the game.

Shared hosting is usually fine for most small to medium vbulletins. I have a lot of reseller accounts to spread them around on.

The problem I have is that the encryption complicates issues - usually everything works fine, but if anything goes wrong, it can leave a big headache.

I'm not really used to using encrypted software - even vbulletin isn't encrypted.

But I guess after resolving a big problem yesterday that first appeared to be a vbseo issue, but was actually a hosting one, I figure the thread topic is one of suggestion, rather than argument. I'm a bit more chilled out today.
