I tried to submit a support ticket like I read in one post but it says I need to upgrade > what is that about?
Yes, you must have an active license to use the support system: vBSEO License Renewal System Launched - Is Your License Expired?
What is the forum URL you have configured for your local copy? A test license can be set up to allow that URL to work for a short period of time for testing.
Wait a second when did this renewal fee come into place? and never mind on the localhost license, I don't need vbseo to run my tests, but thanks for answering my post so fast
As mentioned in the other thread, vBSEO Licenses have always been "owned", and you can continue to run it forever. However, you have to renew to be able to download new/updated versions after the first year. (1 year of upgrades is included.) It's the same system vBulletin, and many other software applications use.
