Extra domain names

Hi
I have a main site using mydomain.com

I also have about 15 other domains that I would like to be pointed to mydomain.com

What is the best way to do this...for example:
1. Do I set up one of the other domains as a site with a redirect to mydomain.com and have the other 14 domains as aliases of the other site.
2. Do I make all the other domains aliases of mydomain.com

etc

Also, 2nd question is how much of an impact does the actual domain name have for SEO? For example do you getter results if you have a site about boats and a domain name that has boats in it or does it not really matter if the boat site has a domain name of cars

Hello Ian ,

If those addon domains are not effective , you should 301 redirect them to your main domain.

Domain name is surely important. You wouldnt want to use a car domain for boats

So in basic terms I set up a hosting for each domain which just has a .htaccess file in it with the 301 redirect - is that correct?

Or, can I just setup one of the other domains as above and all the extra domains are aliases of that domain so I don't have to have a "site" for each of the other domains or would I lose the benefits of having all those other domains that are aliases?

I suggest parking the extra domains on the main domain, and then just make sure you have your htaccess file correct with the "if not mydomain, make it mydomain" statement that comes in the vbseo htacces file by default (the same place you edit www vs non-www)
